ABOUT
Cryer&Coe architects are an award winning design centred practice established in Bristol in 2018. We put our clients and the brief at the centre of each project, regardless of size, sector or budget. Our approach is to listen, understand and respond. Our relationship with you will shape the project we create together. This process allows us to find effective, integrated and bespoke solutions and simplify our clients’ experience.
Each of our projects is unique and evolves from understanding our clients, their brief, the site and future users. We have found that the stronger the relationship and greater the collaboration with client, fellow consultants and contractors then the more successful the project.
We offer an architecture that is refined, simple and thoughtful; combining form, function and aesthetics, with the aim of realising and exceeding client’s expectations. We are passionate about light, space and creating excellent environments for people to live and work which not only look great, but work in practice; making our clients’ lives easier as a result. We are proud to have already created beautiful spaces that have a positive impact on the lives of their occupants and the environment.
Both Duncan and Matthew have gained considerable experience and expertise in practices in London and Bristol with projects ranging from the care and extra care and commercial sectors, through to high end residential developments. Our experience of working successfully across disciplines and sectors and with different drivers - environmental, social, historic, economic and spatial - has given us the tools to deliver complex buildings, programmes and strategies with a high level of service.
Recently completed projects include Rawlings & Son Office development, winner of a British Council for Offices Award for Projects up to 1500m² category, and Stacked Up, a residential refurbishment in central Bristol which has been nominated for a Local Authority Building Control Award.
Duncan Cryer
Duncan has worked in smaller design-led and larger corporate practices across a range of sectors, notably care/extra care and commercial offices. He has worked on projects from inception through to completion and post occupancy, delivering sustainable, contemporary urban spaces.
Whilst at Atkins, one of the UK’s largest design and engineering consultancies, he led the care sector, delivering award winning schemes to public and private clients, alongside commercial office new builds and fit outs. His experience gained across other sectors including residential, education, retail and industrial, means he is able to resolve the most challenging of briefs with clear, apparently simple, concepts and commercially viable solutions.
Duncan is a strong advocate that successful projects are the culmination of an entire client and design team’s expertise and collaborative working; he excels at bringing individuals together to form cohesive teams.
Outside of the office he can be found on the football pitch or out on a long run whilst pining for a quick winter escape to the slopes.
Matthew Coe
Matthew has a depth of experience in delivering projects across a number of sectors ranging from care and extra care through to new build offices, higher education facilities and private residences. Underlining it all is a passion for considered design and for putting the client and end user at the heart of that design.
He studied at Queens University Belfast initially followed by The Glasgow School of Art and The University of Westminster. His varied professional experience to date has included working with multi-disciplinary design teams on all project phases from concept development through to completion often under demanding planning and budgetary constraints. Prior to establishing Cryer&Coe he acted as project lead for an 80 bed dementia focused care home from inception through to start on site for the Borough of Poole. Matthew has a passion to deliver quality projects centred around creative thinking and making places work for people regardless of typology, constraints or budget.
Outside of the office he enjoys riding, breaking and fixing all things two wheel related.
